It’s British Pie Week so I thought I’d have a trawl through the Portly archives to see what recipes I could suggest. Frankly, I was shocked.
Admittedly I got a bit carried away a couple of years ago and posted a Pie Week recipe every day from Monday to Friday, but I hadn’t realised quite how many I’ve shared here. No wonder I’m living up to the Portly moniker.
Still, there are some crackers. These are some of my favourites: have a look and see whether there’s anything you fancy. Because as we all know, a little of what you fancy does you good – the operative word being ‘little’. Everything in moderation. I really must try following my own advice.
If you want more options, just type ‘pie’ into the search box.
Tudor-style Apple and Quince Pie: an interpretation of an historic recipe with a superb saffron pastry from Regula Ysewijn’s Pride and Pudding.
Minted Lamb Pie with Forcemeat Balls: another blast from the past, this one is based on a recipe from Eliza Action, utterly delicious and much lighter than it sounds.
Rhubarb and Raspberry Pie: I love the sweet/sharp flavours in this.
Easter Bunny Pie: much better than a chocolate egg imho.
Salmon Puff Pie: one of the favourite recipes of Mrs P regular, Penny, and who are we to argue?
Beef and Pigeon Pie: A recipe from the peerless Darina Allen. This one’s a knockout. Mrs Allen makes her own puff pastry. I tend to use the shortcrust from this recipe.
Sausage Plaits: You can make these into a regular pie but I like the look of them made into plaits and they slice up nicely.
These all look wonderful! Pie Week…what a great idea!
I agree. I get a bit tired of all these marketing ploys to big up various foodstuffs, but this one is worthy of a whole week! Thanks, Cindy.
I believe my favorite of all is the rhubarb and raspberry one… but all the others sound delicious as well!
That’s one of my favourites too, thanks. 🙂
I can’t believe you’ve not got more! They all look wonderful. And that game pie you served us was glorious as I remember 🙂
Thanks! Actually there are loads more, these are just the ones I think deserve a second look. Lxx
What a gorgeous looking pie…and crust! There is nothing more comforting than pastry, and yours looks amazing!
Thank you!
That’s a seriously impressive collection!
A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips! Worth it though. 🙂
